What's on the Technical Consultation Portal

MTO -TCP

Learn what the Ministry of Transportation’s Technical Consultation Portal (MTO TCP) is and what’s on it.

On the TCP

This is the place where you can provide input and take part in the development of MTO technical documentation. The Ministry uses the portal to publicly show technical documents currently under development or undergoing revision and provide an opportunity for comments and suggestions.

We consult with you on the portal by:

  • posting new or revised technical documents that may be of interest to your business, your trade or you personally
  • letting you comment on the documents
  • informing you about where to find the final documents

This includes changes to existing or proposed transportation:

  • specifications
  • non-standard special provisions
  • Ontario Provincial Standards and drawings
  • Technical policies and design guidance

What you need to know:

  • we consider all comments relevant to the proposal during the decision-making process

General rules

We will not publish your comment for others to see if it:

  • contains inappropriate or offensive language
  • is off topic
  • contains personal information

You must also follow our Terms of Use

Be respectful

Don’t post comments that:

  • are profane
  • are malicious
  • attack a person or a group

Don’t post the same comment repeatedly or impersonate another person.

Stay on topic

We encourage focused and thoughtful comments that respond to our proposals. We won’t consider comments that aren’t relevant.

Don’t post personal or confidential information

We won’t share any comments that contain personal or confidential information (like a person’s home address or phone number).

We’ll still review your comment, but we can’t share it for people to see.

Link to useful information

Don’t post links to advertising or solicitation content, spam/malware or other irrelevant material.

Post comments for the benefit of as many people as possible

Use the official languages of Ontario (English or French). It’s the best way to ensure your thoughts on the proposal are heard.

Editing your comment

You cannot edit your comment after you submit it. We also can't edit comments on your behalf. This is because of privacy and security concerns.

You can submit more comments on an open notice. Reference your original comment’s ID number to let us know they're connected.

How we use your comment

We consider all relevant comments we get during the comment period. They’ll be a part of the decision-making process.

Getting a response

You will not receive a formal response to your comment.

We may contact you to clarify your comment if you’re a part of an organization (and you mentioned the organization in your comment).

Privacy policy

Your privacy is important to us.

Personal information

You can comment on a proposal in the portal one of two ways:

  • anonymously through the portal
  • by logging onto the portal through your account

Please don’t include personal information in your comment, like your:

  • name
  • address
  • phone number
  • email address

This also includes any information that identifies a friend, family member or other person.

If you do choose to provide personal information in your comment , we’ll handle it according to our Privacy Statement.

How we use your information

If you choose to create an account on the portal, we will need your email address to allow you to:

  • log onto the registry
  • track any comments you post
  • sign up to receive email notifications 

Your personal information will never be shared publicly.

We may use any comments you post on the portal to inform government decision making.

We may also anonymize and aggregate data collected through the portal and use it to improve the service.

You may opt out of receiving notifications about consultations at any time by editing your account.
