Decision summary
Two comments were received. Comments were relevant and appropriate and will have responses posted.
Decision details
Comment one had three parts. The first part questioned the need for the lower set of holes on the guiderail post. These were included erroneously and have been removed from the drawing. The second part sought verification of the need to used shortened wood blockouts with half post spacing. This requirement was identified in the crash test report and was confirmed. The third part asked for the number of the TTI crash test report. Report number and date was provided in the response.
Comment two had three parts. The first part questioned the use of curb adjacent to the reduced post spacing. Curb is not permitted, adjacent guiderail will be re-labelled as M20 instead of M20 or M30. The second part questioned the labelling of the backslope on the elevation detail. Backslope labelling and corresponding note is consistent with all other steel beam guiderail drawings and will not be revised. The third part noted that both quarter and half post spacing options have working widths of 1.0m so the quarter post spacing option would likely never be used if a contractor has an option between the two given the higher cost. Crash tested working widths were within approximately 50 mm of each other. Half post spacing option will be implemented as standard with quarter post spacing option available as a non standard option if requested.
