Proposal summary

This is an update to the Ministry’s Structure Rehabilitation Manual (SRM).

Proposal details

The SRM was last updated in 2007. Since that time, changes in rehabilitation policy and practice have been communicated through various memos, reports, and guidelines. The updated SRM consolidates these materials and revises requirements related to condition surveys and rehabilitation design strategies. Overall, the revisions better reflect the current state of MTO’s bridge inventory, integrate rehabilitation-related policies, and improve alignment and cross‑referencing with other MTO documents.
The requirements for completing condition surveys, as well as the considerations for selecting appropriate rehabilitation strategies, have been streamlined to align with a more standardized and mature bridge inventory.
The 2007 manual primarily focused on concrete-related rehabilitation treatments, including concrete removal, patch repairs, overlays, crack repairs, and coatings. These topics have been updated to reflect current practice. In addition, the updated manual includes new subject areas, such as cathodic protection, expansion joints, bearings, waterproofing, repairs using FRP, repairs to prestressed components, repairs to structural steel, dowels, liners for structural culverts, and deck-top repairs using short-term closures.
