Decision summary
Minor comment received to clarify which standard drawings can be converted to 500W, with only 1 engineering seal being required. Minor wording changes made.
Decision details
2 bullet points in the memo were revised to clarify which standard drawings would be changed to 500W, without designer input and without need for second engineering seal. Bullet 2 clarifies that designers consider the rebar strength for their parts of the design. Bullet 3 was changed to clarify that only standard drawings that are fully designed and need no farther design effort from the designer would qualify as requiring automatic change of standard drawing from 400 MPa to 500 MPa, and only require 1 engineering seal.

Original proposal
Proposal details
- New policy will provide guidance to structural/bridge designers on the use of 500 MPa reinforcement after the decision to use that grade has been made.
- Designers will utilize the benefits of the 500 MPa reinforcement in their designs.
- For Structural Standard Drawings (SSD’s), designers will simply change the reinforcement grade to 500 MPa in order that the entire bridge to utilize the same grade of reinforcement.
- A new Special Provision to OPSS 1440 will be created which allows for the use of CSA G30.18, Grade 500W, which refers to the contract documents on where the 500W grade is required.
