Proposal details

This posting aims to seek feedback from industry stakeholders on the following key changes:

  1. QA tests to demonstrate compliance with the physical property requirements in Table 7 shall be waived if the gabion stone, rip-rap, and rock protection are from sources on DSM #3.05.25. This change will reduce the administration of sampling and testing of quality aggregates from the sources on DSM.
  2. At the discretion of the Owner, prior material data demonstrating compliance with the physical requirements in Table 7 may be acceptable provided that such testing has been done within 12 months of the material being used in an MTO contract and field performance has continually been satisfactory. This change will reduce the administration of sampling and testing for a prior accepted material that demonstrated satisfactory performance for the last 12 months in an MTO contract.
  3. QA testing shall be done in the QA lab, except that mass gradation for gabion stone, rip-rap, and rock protection is to be done by CA at the Working Area. The CA may elect to carry out the referee testing directly after the QA testing. This change is to eliminate the concerns surrounding the handling and shipping of large rocks, resolve disputes more efficiently and reduce turnaround time.
