Proposal details

The LCV Best Practices for Design is a companion document to the MTO Design Supplement to the TAC Geometric Design Guide for Canadian Roads.

The document contains a high level overview of the ministry’s Long Combination Vehicle program, their operational characteristics, how origin-destination locations are reviewed and approved by the ministry and the unique challenges associated with these vehicles operating on Ontario roadways given their length which is typically around 40 metres.

Best practices for the design of features such as intersections, turn channels, interchange ramps and roundabouts are included for accommodation of LCV’s. The report also discusses construction staging and assessment of LCV operations in the context of existing traffic patterns.

Information on the LCV program can be found on the ministry’s dedicated page (see Related Links)
