Decision summary
The manual will be published along with a release memo to implement CHBDC 2025 and announce its
publication. Both documents will be available on MTO’s Technical Publications website.
Decision details
After addressing comments received via email and through TCP, the manual will be finalized with minor
corrections and updates and published on the MTO’s Technical Publications website. It will be accompanied
by a release memo for the implementation of CSA-S6-2025. Once published, Structural Manual V61 will
replace the currently available version, v60 of Structural Manual.
Effects of consultation
Further clarifications and improvements have been made based on feedback received during the TCP
consultation.

Proposal details
- The draft of Structural Manual Revision 61 maintains the same reorganization approach as the previous version i.e., aligning various concepts into logical groupings. Each section includes minor clarifications and corrections. The most significant update is contained in Division 1, where exceptions to CHBDC S6-25 have been incorporated.
Summary of Key Updates
Division 2, Section 2: Guidance has been added on construction loading, hydraulic design, and the required contents of structural drawings.
Division 2, Section 5: Updates to the Integral Abutment Policy.
Divisions 6, 7, and 8: Multiple revisions related to the durability of structural components. Division 2, Section 9: New deck cantilever design requirements and introduction of a design aid for deck cantilever design.
Division 2, Section 12: Updated corrosion protection policy and a new section on composite construction using GFRP.
Division 2, Section 16: Revised structural grounding requirements.
Division 2, Section 17: Table 1 updated to align with earthquake probabilities of occurrence based on the EQ Canada web tool.
Division 3: Introduction of new design aids DA 9-1 and DA 9-2 for deck cantilever reinforcement design.
As with previous version of Structural Manual, the updates to Structural Standard Drawings (SSD) are provided in a separate document titled “SSD Revision Sheet All-Rev”, and all SSD prints are compiled in “SSD Complete Manual”. Both documents are available on the MTO Technical Publications website.
