Proposal details
This posting aims to seek feedbacks from industry stakeholders on the following key changes:
- QA tests to demonstrate compliance with some physical property requirements shall be waived if the aggregates are from DSM or CASL. This change will reduce the administration of sampling and testing for quality aggregates from DSM or CASL.
- At the discretion of the Owner, prior data demonstrating compliance with the requirements of some physical property requirements may be acceptable provided that such testing has been done within 12 months of the waterbody material being used in an MTO contract and field performance has continually been satisfactory. This change will reduce the administration of sampling and testing for a prior accepted material that demonstrated satisfactory performance for the last 12 months in an MTO contract.
- In lieu of ASTM 6473, LS-604 can be used for specific gravity testing on another aggregate product or on a WB-53 or smaller that is being simultaneously produced from the same formation and location within a pit or a quarry. This change will eliminate duplicate sawed portions of big boulders which may be difficult to handle.
- QA testing shall be done in QA lab, except that mass gradation and measurement of dimensions are to be done by CA at the Working Area or the source. The CA may elect to carry out the referee testing directly after the QA testing. This change is to reduce handling and shipping of large boulders, resolve disputes more efficiently and reduce turnaround time.
- CA will check that stockpiles of waterbody materials are free of visible unacceptable materials and contamination. CA will check all stockpiles of waterbody materials intended for the Work, not just the WB-100 and larger in the current specification.
